She is leaving, and the whole sky has turned pink and orange to see her off. It began with something small I kept noticing, a female pigeon quietly removing herself from the endless attention of the males, and it turned into the most quietly defiant thing I have painted. People buy it at the beginnings of things.
Crested pigeons give themselves away with their wings rather than their voices. That whistle you hear when one takes off is not a call, it is simply the sound of the feathers, an alarm they cannot help sounding. There is something very human in that.
The original was a finalist for Petite Pieces by Aspire Gallery in 2018, painted in acrylic on gessoboard rather than oil on canvas, and it exists only once. This Pigeon Wall Art print carries the same dawn for anyone marking a new chapter.
Each is made on archival fine art paper at the size you have chosen. The small and medium sizes are printed by me in my Brisbane studio, and the largest by a specialist fine art printer with a wider press than mine. Dawn colours are subtle, so each Pigeon Wall Art print is checked against the painting.
