Two kookaburras sitting close on a branch with the country opening out behind them. They are not doing anything. They are simply together, and entirely at home, and that is what the painting is about. It suits a family room or a hallway, somewhere the whole household passes.
Kookaburras pair for life and stay near where they were raised, often with last year's young still hanging about helping out. Their call at dawn is a territorial announcement rather than a laugh, though nobody in this country has ever managed to hear it that way.
