Two swans on water so dark it might be glass, the foliage around the lake giving it that deep green that reads almost black. It is the most fairytale thing in the collection and it belongs somewhere calm. In a room of greys and natural textures it stops being a picture of birds and becomes the still point everything else sits around.
Black swans pair for years and raise their young together, which is not the arrangement most birds settle on. There is a devotion in them that suits the darkness of the water, and painting them felt less like observing wildlife than eavesdropping on something private.
The original oil painting is a major work and exists only once. There is also a hand signed limited edition of five, a genuinely short run. This Neutral Wall Art print carries the same stillness for a wall that wants depth rather than colour.
Each print comes off archival fine art paper once you have settled on a size. The small and medium sizes are printed in my Brisbane studio, and the largest by a specialist fine art printer with a wider press than mine. Dark tones are the hardest to reproduce, so every Neutral Wall Art print is checked against the painting.
