He arrives on a wall the way a good hat arrives at a party. That crest is doing something no other bird in this country attempts, and against the soft beige behind him there is nowhere for it to hide. A room with one point of real colour in it feels considered. A room with none feels unfinished.
Gang gang cockatoos are the quietest of the big parrots and by some distance the most dignified, which makes the crown funnier the longer you look at him. He is not showing off. He simply came that way, and has clearly decided to carry it well.
