One bird, a great deal of blue, and absolutely no hurry. It is the calmest thing I have painted and it works hardest in the rooms that need calming. A hallway you rush through. A study that has seen some late nights. It slows the pace of a space without announcing that it is doing so.
Cormorants dive, then sit with their wings open to dry because their feathers were never fully waterproof to begin with. There is something companionable about an animal that good at something and still a bit exposed by it.
