Electric blue and burnt orange, on white, with nothing else asking for your eye. Azure kingfishers are barely bigger than a sparrow and somehow carry the two most confident colours available. In a small room, a bathroom, or a narrow stretch of wall, this one earns its place immediately.
They hunt from a low branch over water and they do not hover or fuss. They wait. Then it is over. You almost always notice the colour before you notice the bird, which tells you something about both.
