This Koala Print is about the sleep that comes after a long night out. A koala rests in the fork of a eucalypt, wrapped around the branch while the morning sky opens behind it and the river catches the first light in the distance. There is something quietly Australian in that moment: the night already over, the day just beginning, and one very tired koala deciding the world can wait.

Koalas do most of their moving about at night, which makes their daytime sleep feel well earned. No fuss, no apology, just a round grey body tucked into a tree as if the branch was made for exactly that purpose. It is the kind of calm people seem to recognise immediately, perhaps because so few of us give in to rest quite so completely.

The original oil painting was exhibited at the RME Downlands and Nature's Beauty exhibitions in 2021 and now hangs in one private home.
