This Rainbow Lorikeet Print is called Morning Chores, though the chores look rather romantic from here. Two lorikeets sit together in the first orange light of the day, helping each other preen before the morning properly begins. It is one of those everyday bird rituals that feels oddly familiar: the small fussing, the tidying up, the quiet care between a pair who know each other well.

Lorikeets are the most sociable birds we have and by some distance the least dignified. They squabble, hang upside down for no obvious reason, and somehow turn ordinary maintenance into a performance. I gathered the references for this one on a morning when they were too busy with each other to care who was watching.
