One bird is doing something kind for another and neither of them is thinking about it. That is all this painting is, and it turns out to be enough. Hang it in a bedroom and it changes the temperature of the room. Couples buy this one for each other more than any other piece I have made.
Scaly-breasted lorikeets preen each other constantly, and it is genuinely affection rather than my interpretation of it. Green on green, tucked into the leaves, easy to walk past entirely. Most of what happens between birds happens quietly and slightly out of sight.
The original oil painting was a finalist for the Ipswich Art Awards and exists only once. This Animal Wall Art print is the way the same tenderness reaches more than one house. I have written about how this painting came together if you would like to see it take shape.
